Sonic Boom 2015: Master Class – Call for Scores

About the master class:

The Master Class will be moderated by Sonic Boom Composer in Residence Aaron Gervais, participants will receive a professional reading of their work performed by Liam Hockley (Clarinet) and Chris Morano (Piano). Participants will receive feedback from Aaron Gervais, and will have the opportunity to engage the musicians and fellow participants in open discussion. This workshop is a rare and valuable opportunity for all student composers.

Who can submit a score?

We welcome submissions from composers of all levels of experience. Although typically applicants are from the secondary school to university level, we encourage any and all interested students to apply!

Instrumentation

Your submission should include a score and parts for a short piece (about 3 to 8 minutes) for one or both of the following instruments:

  • Bass or Bb Clarinet
  • Piano

Application Guidelines

  • Applicants must be residents of British Columbia;
  • The submission of an application implies agreement to attend the master class;
  • Applicants automatically become members in good standing of Vancouver Pro Musica, exempt from membership dues for one year.

Checklist

Applications must include:

  • The composer’s name, teacher or academic affiliation, and e-mail address;
  • Application fee of $20.  Payment can be made via Paypal or Cheque by mail. Please make cheques payable to:     Vancouver Pro Musica Society

  • One Copy of all performer parts;
  • Two Copies of the score and any desired supporting material.  One copy of the score should be anonymous, in the event that a jury is required to adjudicate submissions.

Master Class participants will be contacted by late February 2014 to confirm attendance.  Materials submitted will be returned to the recipient if claimed at the Master Class or if all necessary return packaging (including postage) is provided, pre-addressed.
