Help Support Vancouver Pro Musica

Dear composers and fans of Canadian new music,

As we head towards 2016 and another year of great music, we’d like to ask all of you to consider making a donation to Vancouver Pro Musica to help us continue to put on the best events possible. Vancouver Pro Musica is a non-profit organization of BC composers mandated to sponsor, promote and produce concerts showcasing new music created by BC composers and performed by BC musicians. Your help will provide us achieve goals like:

  • Sponsoring, promoting, and performing concerts of new original compositions by BC composers at some of Vancouver’s best venues;
  • Hiring the best BC musicians to perform new original compositions by BC composers at our concerts;
  • Continuing to provide educational opportunities to help develop BC composers, including workshops and readings sessions as a part of every concert we produce.

Vancouver Pro Musica works to provide composers with the opportunity to experience the whole creation-to-performance cycle of a new piece of original music: from the composition of an original work through to the submission process, to reading sessions and rehearsals, and then to the final performance of the new work by professional BC musicians at a public concert alongside works by their creative peers.

This season we’ve already had one successful event with our annual Electroacoustic Festival held in November, a two-night event which showcased the research and music of local electroacoustic pioneers. We also had workshops with trombonist Jeremy Berkman and bassist David Brown, as well as the Standing Wave Ensemble, with open reading sessions coming up early in 2016 as part of our annual Sonic Boom Festival. The main event, which also includes a special masterclass with our Composer-in-Residence Edward Top, will be held March 17-20. Following close on Sonic Boom’s heels will be our concert with the Nu:BC Ensemble on May 13, with workshop and reading session planned for January 9 and April 3 respectively.

No other arts organization in Vancouver does what we do, and we’re very proud of that. We rely mainly on federal and provincial funding to hire our artists for the year, composers-in-residence, organize workshops, reading sessions, and concerts, but often times that funding just barely covers all our costs, and ticket sales do not always cover the balance. Our board members are all volunteers who put in the time to make everything right for every concert because we care about representing music by BC composers, just like us.

Please consider making a donation through the “Donate Now” button on our website, or through this link: The Pro Musica Society of Vancouver (aka: Vancouver Pro Musica) is a Canadian federally registered charity organization (#888936572RR0001) and a registered non-profit society under the Society Act of British Columbia. All donations are tax deductible and a tax receipt for your donation will be issued to you by Any amount you can give, however small, means a lot to us and really shows that we have a community that cares about what we do. We sincerely believe that we make a difference in Canada’s art scene and we certainly hope that you believe in us, too.

With thanks,

The board of Vancouver Pro Musica
