An opening night event not to be missed!
The Sonic Boom Festival 2015 starts off with the interesting and thought-provoking Experts Panel with Composer-in-Residence Aaron Gervais plus guests Corey Hamm and Nicole Li in the Pyatt Hall.
Aaron Gervais is a composer based in San Francisco, originally from Edmonton, Canada. Chamber music, vocal music, and opera feature most prominently in his music, which critics often describe as eclectic and playful. Aaron also writes avidly about issues facing classical music in the 21st century, publishing to his blog and a number of music journals. His education includes a B.Mus from the University of Toronto and an M.A. in composition from UC San Diego.
Discussion Subject of Experts Panel:
The development of “Who Made the Inch of Grass,” Aaron Gervais’ piece for piano and erhu to be performed on Saturday’s concert; the development of the piece; the composer’s specific motivation and why he wrote what he did; the concept of lyricism in music and how that works in the erhu/piano context; and what the rehearsal process was like for the performers Corey Hamm and Nicole Li of PEP (Piano and Erhu Project).
Aaron Gervais’ piece Who Made the Inch of Grass will be performed by Sonic Boom Festival 2015 Featured Artist PEP (Piano and Erhu Project) on Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the Pyatt Hall.
