Turning Point Ensemble & Vancouver Pro Musica
“All in the Family”
Orchestration Workshops (Fall 2022)
Over five workshops from October 17, 2022 until Nov. 6, 2022 – instrumentalists from Turning Point Ensemble (the Ensemble in Residence for the 2023 Sonic Boom Festival) will be joined by leading composers to discuss and demonstrate strategies that can make more effective your use of the instruments of a large mixed instrument ensemble.
The phases of learning to understand how instruments of different families sound together include first learning how the different instruments within the same family offer nuanced opportunities for the sonic palette. Composers who attend these workshops will learn transformative skills that will help them compose works for ensembles such as Turning Point Ensemble or ensembles even larger, where a more advanced understanding of orchestration will result in music that is both more interesting to listen to and enjoyable to play.
